Description of Responsibilities: The Development Manager (DM) plays an essential fundraising role on the Make-A-Wish team and is based in the Rochester office. The DM is responsible for the strategic engagement and growth of individual and business relationships and manages Make-A-Wish fundraising/donor events (including Rochester Gala, Corning Walk, and Donor Appreciation and new fundraising events/initiatives). Additionally, he/she is responsible for working with the volunteer leadership and assorted fundraising/stewardship activities, including developing sponsorship/funding proposals and playing an important role in ongoing data analysis and optimization.Th DM reports to the Rochester Regional Development Director and work in partnership with other departments and team members throughout the Metro & WNY Chapter. The DM must be adept at managing donor relationships, planning high impact internal and external fundraising events, and working with volunteers. He/she must be sincere, informative and creative in communications, as well as be well-versed in fundraising best practices. He/she will be expected to track progress and be responsible for meeting specific revenue goals and other relevant metrics.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with a focus in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, or related field.

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 - 7 years of experience in fundraising with demonstrated success.
  • Proven track record of managing and enhancing relationships with varied audiences including community, corporate, volunteer, and media constituencies.
  • Experience in planning events and drafting proposals.
  • General computer proficiency required. Experience with database systems, such as Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce.
  • Available to work a varied schedule; evenings and weekends to ensure coverage at Make-A-Wish and industry-related events.
  • Commitment to and a passion for the mission of Make-A-Wish.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
