Description of Responsibilities: 

Chief Advancement Officer Position: The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) is responsible for planning, managing, and executing a comprehensive, diversified and strategic advancement and communications effort that sustains and grows revenues from all constituents including individual donors, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, and special events. The CAO leads a team of advancement professionals to achieve these key objectives. He or she reports directly to the President.

  • Develop and implement both annual and major giving plans to successfully meet established fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership to an advancement staff of four (Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations, Director of Special Events and Parent Relations, Director of Communications, and Advancement Services Coordinator) including establishing annual goals, providing regular performance reviews and facilitating appropriate recognition.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for Institutional Relationships to develop strategies and achieve goals in both annual and major giving.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors and prospects to grow, strengthen, and nurture the donor base.
  • Maintain a portfolio of leadership donors to various funds, including the Annual Fund, capital projects, restricted scholarships, and event sponsorships. Identify and attract corporate and foundation donors and prospects.
  • Oversee donor and prospect management systems.
  • Oversee gift processing by ensuring policies, systems and procedures built on ethical standards for soliciting and reporting.
  • Develop and manage the annual fundraising budget and work plan; track and report results to the President and Board of Trustees.
  • Model a leadership style that is open, supportive, collaborative and respectful of staff.
  • Monitor, participate in and adhere to best practices in philanthropy and communications.
  • Attend McQuaid Jesuit events and activities and fosters significant pride and excitement for fundraising and alumni efforts.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the President.

Candidate Qualifications/ Experience: A minimum of five years of nonprofit development experience.

Education: A Bachelors degree is required, and training that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the successful performance of the essential job duties.

Competencies/ Attributes: The successful professional will have or be: a demonstrated commitment to Catholic and Jesuit education a successful track record in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and potential donors a working knowledge of donor database programs, Raisers Edge NXT, and skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite exceptional leadership and management skills to inspire, lead, and work collegially with members of the faculty and staff strong financial competence in budgeting and revenue goal setting demonstrated experience in a management role persuasive communication style, with excellent written/oral communication skills creative, flexible, and entrepreneurial attitude
