Description of Responsibilities: Director of Development (School of Business and Corporate & Foundation Relations) SUNY Geneseo, one of the nations leading public liberal arts colleges, seeks a well-qualified individual for the position of Director of Development (School of Business and Corporate & Foundation Relations). The College regularly leads the "Best Undergraduate Teaching" list among the top public universities in the north by U.S. News and World Report and is the only member in New York State of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, a national alliance of liberal arts colleges in the public sector. Located in the national historic landmark village of Geneseo in New York State's Finger Lakes region, the residential campus overlooks the picturesque Genesee Valley, just 30 miles south of the major metropolitan area of Rochester and 70 miles east of Buffalo.

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the individual major donor program to meet the College's major gifts fundraising goal and build the individual donor base. This position will be assigned to raise private support for a dynamic and growing part of our campus that includes corporate and foundation relations, and the School of Business. The Director of Development is responsible for direct solicitations of $10,000 or higher. The work requires advanced interpersonal and communication skills as well as excellent time management, a strong inclination to action, and the ability to record, track and respond to data trends.

Candidate will demonstrate best practices in fundraising on an ongoing basis and become knowledgeable of current trends and advances within the development field by participating in seminars and online communications. Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working environment. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum three years of experience and demonstrated success in fundraising with nonprofit organizations, with an emphasis on activities relative to corporate and foundation relations and the business education, including fundraising program planning and personal solicitation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships on and off campus, serving in a leadership role, and as a representative of the College.
  • Demonstrated ability and success in donor/client identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundations, corporations, and individuals at the major gift level of support.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and summarize complex biographical, business, and financial data. High degree of organization and initiative.
  • Demonstrated advanced interpersonal and effective persuasive communication skills.
  • Outstanding ability to work effectively in teams of diverse people and organizations.
  • Proficiency using a CRM database system such as Raiser's Edge or Ellucian CRM Advance, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional time management, organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to build and sustain professional relationships grounded in ethical and best practices in fundraising.
  • Exceptional professional judgment and ability to make sound decisions.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Willingness and ability to travel; possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
