Description of Responsibilities: Summary: The person in this position is responsible for the recruitment, training, record-keeping, communications, and overall coordination for volunteers of Verona Street Animal Society in support of the mission of Rochester Animal Services. Below is an overview, though not exhaustive, of the job requirements related to this position.

Essential Functions:

  • Actively recruits volunteers (including foster caregivers) through use of a variety of communications vehicles including, but not limited to, website, print media, community calendars, public speaking, attendance at community meetings and events;
  • Develops and maintains volunteer job descriptions, tracks service hours, submits monthly reports and other reports as they relate to volunteer services;
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of volunteer services;
  • Develops and implements volunteer recognition activities;
  • Serves as liaison between volunteers and Rochester Animal Services department managers;
  • Researches and implements effective volunteer recruitment and retention strategies;
  • Reports monthly on department activities to the VSAS Board of Directors or designee;
  • Attends meetings of Board of Directors and RAS managers, as required;
  • Prepares for, schedules and attends periodic volunteer orientation sessions;
  • Writes and maintains volunteer code of conduct, handbook, and guidelines and foster care handbook , in consultation with the Board of Directors or its designee(s);
  • Orders volunteer supplies;
  • Communicates regularly with volunteers

Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. AND

  • I. A Bachelor's Degree PLUS a minimum of one (1) year experience in personnel work, volunteer coordination and placement, or other related field, which includes program coordination, recruitment, placement and supervision of personnel, and public contact experience, involving giving and receiving of information; OR
  • II. An Associate's Degree PLUS three (3) years experience as described in I. above. 

Experience/Personal Qualifications: Critical Demands: This position requires some weekend and evening work. This person works independently much of the time but has regular interaction with RAS management and staff.
