For members who want to test the waters before becoming a board member or have less time to commit, we have several committees who could use your help! Consider donating your time and expertise to one of the committees below.
Conference Committee
Contribute your expertise and passion to help us create an inclusive, diverse, and memorable experience for attendees of the AFPGV Regional Conference. Committee members meet monthly from September to December and biweekly from January to May via Zoom to plan and execute the annual AFPGV Regional Conference that occurs every spring. Committee Chair: Sami Sheehan
Education Committee The Education Committee includes CFRE, fundamentals, deep dives, educational breakfast/luncheon programs, ethics, and four networking groups: capital campaigns, young professionals, small shops and senior advancement professionals. The goal is for members to work collaboratively and increase communications across the various sub-committees to enhance overall educational programming and provide a variety of networking opportunities for development professionals in the community.
CFRE: The CFRE/ACFRE Certification Committee provides ongoing promotion and preparatory opportunities for those interested in achieving and maintaining professional certification. A CFRE refresher course is offered every two years. It will be offered in 2018.
Emerging Leaders Networking Group (Formerly Young Professionals Networking Group (YPNG)): A networking group for new and mid-career philanthropy professionals and fundraisers. Join this group to make connections with peers, gain deeper knowledge and grow in your career. Discussion topics will be most relevant for those who have been in the fundraising field for 7or fewer years. To get involved with our growing group, email the co-moderators or come to an upcoming event. The event calendar can be found here. There is no cost to participate, and both AFP members and non-members are welcome to attend gatherings!

Fundamentals: Provides the AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course to those in our region who are interested in an overview of fundraising best practices and practical day-to-day information. Attendees benefit from both the course materials compiled by AFP and the real-world expertise of local experienced professionals who teach the modules.
Small Shops: Provides an opportunity for individuals who are leading their organizations as a small shop to network and share information unique to small non-profit entities. The group, open to members and non-members, works to share resources and offer input while encouraging participation in AFPGV programs, training opportunities, and other networking events.
Senior Advancement Professionals: Provides an opportunity for seasoned fundraising professionals who support the efforts of non-profits, whether as part of their job description or in a volunteer capacity, to share unique concerns with peers with significant experience in the philanthropic community and/or development profession. Participants self-identify themselves, have 15-20 + years’ experience in the fundraising profession and/or are transitioning into the profession from a different field.
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access (I.D.E.A.) Committee The IDEA committee will assist in creating a community of inclusion by seeking, embracing and engaging diverse individuals, groups and organizations with a broad representation of experiences, perspectives, thoughts and cultures within the fundraising profession.
Marketing and Communications Committee The Marketing and Communications Committee serves as a resource team to provide ideas and support when it comes to all aspects of AFPGV. With continuously advancing technology and new ways to communicate messages, we will provide ideas that are on the forefront of communications strategy. Each member of our team brings a little something different to the table. Each member has some unique responsibility, depending on interest and experience. Our committee finds ways to promote the chapter and national brand and provide proactive public relations, as well as crisis communication. Vice President of Marketing consults and fills in when chairs are not available.
Membership Committee Help AFP Genesee Valley Chapter retain and grow our membership base through targeted, personalized outreach, recruitment, relationship-building, as well as planning and executing AFPGV Meet and Greets open to members and nonmembers, and informational meetings and sessions including at the AFPGV Annual Regional Conference. Committee members will learn and maintain knowledge of local chapter and AFP Global member benefits, resources, membership types, pricing, as well as coupons, special offers, and scholarship opportunities available. This committee meets virtually from 9-10 am on the first Thursday of each month. Please contact Membership Committee leaders, Alexandra Bailey and Alison MacKenzie to learn more.
National Philanthropy Day (NPD) Committee
National Philanthropy Day (NPD) is a special day set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy, and people active in the philanthropic community, have made to our lives, our communities and our world.
