Description of Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY 
The Director of Development oversees the Development Department Staff and works collaboratively with the President & CEO, ESLC Leadership, the Community Engagement department, the Advancement Committee members, and the ESLC and ECH Foundation Board Members aligned with ESLC core values. The Director of Development builds the Comprehensive Fund-Raising Program for Episcopal SeniorLife Communities and is responsible for the outcomes of the fundraising program including support from individuals, corporations, private foundations, and public grants. The Director will identify, cultivate, solicit, and create a stewardship of donors to raise at least $1,000,000 annually for ESLC.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

1. Implement fund raising strategies that align with ESLC’s strategic pathways and operational priorities.

  • Raise $1,000,000 annually.
  • Foster an open, collaborative environment for the development team.
  • Manage the Development Team and consistently acknowledge successes.

2. Work in conjunction with Marketing and Community Engagement departments in developing and managing a comprehensive communication program.

  • Educate our constituents on ESLC Mission and Vision and the challenges and opportunities in senior living.
  • Lead or facilitate in at least 4 community workshops each year.
  • Prepare Foundation’s language or messages for print materials, social media, and donor communications, with assistance from Community Engagement.
  • Identify donor highlights for newsletters, annual reports, and other communication channels.
  • Participate in outreach team meetings.

3. Build relationships with partners, donors and constituents.

  • Coordinate Board and Leadership engagement in donor cultivation.
  • Cultivate a network of legal, accounting, and financial planning professionals and private foundation leaders.
  • Maintain a robust stewardship program.
4. Manage the annual fundraising plan with The Development Team.
  • Manage a portfolio of current and potential donors.
  • Monitor metrics to achieve desired results, and pivot to priorities.
  • Oversee and expand the Frank Allen Planned Giving Society.
  • Build relationships with Residents, Families and Staff.
  • Manage grants. 
  • Update the prospect database with contacts, asks, results and strategies for cultivation.5. Manage relationships with local, state and national institutions that provide funding for not- for-profit organizations.
  • Manage grant writing and submission.
  • Review annual reports, grant histories and related research.
  • Prioritize private foundations and corporate relationship development.

Education:
Associates degree with related experience required, Bachelor’s degree with related experience preferred.

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

  • At least five (5) years proven fundraising experience required, seven (7) - ten (10) years of professional fundraising experience preferred.
  • Skilled in critical thinking and act independently in situations and willingness to take accountability for decisions. 
  • Must have sound knowledge of the Rochester community and the ability to represent ESLC in a credible and effective manner and with integrity among constituents.
  • Demonstrated success working with donors and in fundraising.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), customer service, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity for collaboration.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet multiple deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • Knowledge of computer fundraising software such as Raiser’s Edge.
